A local sustainable coffee roaster, is now using fully compostable bags for its coffee
Annapolis, Maryland - Good Dog Coffee Micro Roaster, a local sustainable coffee roaster, is now using fully compostable bags for its coffee. Following their strong commitment to sustainability, Good Dog Coffee Micro Roasters has now acquired coffee bags made from 40% recycled Kraft paper (25% post consumer products) and lined with EarthFirst® Polylaltic Acid (PLA), a compostable film made from Ingeo™ polymer which comes from corn plants. PLA is a corn-based plastic that is compostable, meaning it will degrade in an environment with the correct balance of heat and moisture (tin ties need to be removed prior to sending to composter). In addition to the inner film being PLA, the bag’s paper outer layer is FDA approved recycled natural Kraft.
Made from the near carbon neutral polymer Ingeo™, EarthFirst films add environmental stewardship value to their coffee products.
“This is what we live for and this is what we are always in the search for” said, Leo Miranda Owner and Master Roaster of Good Dog Coffee Micro Roasters.
“We would like to reach full sustainability of our operations. We started with our shade-grown only coffee beans and now we want to increase our environmental stewardship to our packaging. It is the only way forward;” added Miranda.
Good Dog Coffee Micro Roasters, a small family owned business that custom-roast its clients’ coffee. At the moment their organic and shade-grown coffee beans come from Puerto Rico, Colombia, Nicaragua and Bolivia.
“We only roast coffee to-order, meaning that we will roast your coffee beans only after you place the order. It doesn’t get any fresher!” concluded Mr. Miranda.
